Palo Alto Networks Address Vulnerabilities in NHS Cyber Systems

Palo Alto Networks, a global cyber security leader, has released a security advisory to address a vulnerability within NHS cyber operating systems. The company warned that exploitation could allow threat actors with network access to bypass authentication controls when Cloud Authentication Service (CAS) is enabled. If successfully exploited, the vulnerability could provide unauthorised access to critical systems, potentially exposing sensitive patient data and disrupting healthcare service delivery.

The warning comes as South East London hospitals continue to experience disruption from a ransomware attack 18 months ago, with one NHS trust still operating without fully restored systems. The attack resulted in the postponement of 10,152 acute outpatient appointments and 1,710 elective procedures, highlighting the operational impact that the compromise of critical healthcare network vulnerabilities can have on patient care.
