UK Announces Cooperation with Germany Following a Wave of Grey Zone Incidents

On Thursday, Prime Minister Andy Burnham travelled to Germany, where he announced the launch of a joint partnership with the German government to enhance cooperation on shared security threats. The partnership will include information sharing and combined action to monitor, deter and disrupt threats across Europe.

This partnership comes after Germany experienced a drone attack on Leipzig airport earlier this summer, which the government linked to Russian operatives. Over recent weeks, the UK has experienced similar security incidents, including an incident at the airbase RAF Fairford, where seven men were arrested for suspicious activity that the Prime Minister believes had Iranian state involvement. On October 8, two Latvian men were also arrested for entering RAF Molesworth, where US military installations are based. This pattern of events will continue to prompt the UK to cooperate with allies to build resilience against live security threats facing the region.
